What happens in Chapter 87.
Pi's sight begins to return. As his vision clears, he sees something on the horizon that he cannot immediately explain: a low, green shape. It turns out to be an island, but not any ordinary island. The island is made entirely of algae and is inhabited by thousands of meerkats. Pi and Richard Parker go ashore. They eat and rest. The island restores Pi physically in a way the ocean never could. Pi stays for some time, eating the algae and the fish that live in the freshwater ponds. Richard Parker also recovers. The island seems like salvation, but Pi begins to notice things that do not add up.
