Act 1
A violent storm wrecks a ship carrying the King of Naples and his court. We quickly learn the storm is fake, conjured by Prospero, the exiled Duke of Milan, who lives on an island…
Act 2
The shipwrecked nobles wander the island in two groups. King Alonso grieves, convinced his son Ferdinand is dead.
Act 3
Ferdinand is still hauling logs under Prospero's orders, but Miranda visits him and they confess their love and agree to marry.
Act 4
Prospero formally blesses the engagement of Ferdinand and Miranda and summons spirits to perform a masque — an elaborate celebration featuring goddesses.
Act 5
Prospero decides to forgive rather than punish. Ariel describes the nobles' distress and suggests that a human observer would feel pity for them, and Prospero agrees.
