Troy Maxson and his friend Bono drink on the porch after work and Troy holds court, telling stories and complaining about the garbage company's racial policies.
Act One, Scene Two
It's the next morning. Gabriel, Troy's brother, shows up.
Act One, Scene Three
Cory is home working on the fence Rose wants built. He asks Troy to watch him play football so a recruiter can see him.
Act One, Scene Four
Cory has gone behind Troy's back and quit the A&P to keep playing football. Troy finds out and is furious.
Act Two, Scene One
Troy tells Rose that Alberta is pregnant. Rose's response is controlled at first, then devastating.
Act Two, Scene Two
Six months have passed. Rose tells Troy that Alberta has died giving birth to his baby.
Act Two, Scene Three
Troy and Cory have a confrontation that has been building since Act One. Cory comes home and refuses to move aside for Troy in the yard.
Act Two, Scene Four
Troy has been drinking heavily and is alone in the yard. He shouts a challenge at Death, daring it to come for him.
Act Two, Scene Five
Eight years later, Troy has died of a heart attack. Cory comes home in his Marine uniform for the funeral.
